Tips to Build a Shed Foundation Properly

The shed foundation is one of the most important parts of your backyard shed. If you're going to make your own storage shed, it's important that you choose the right foundation and that you build it properly. If you've never done this before, it might seem a little intimidating but it's not that difficult once you learn a few tips.

Before you begin your foundation, you need to be aware of any building regulations in your area. Then you also need to know where you will place the shed. You need a nice, level location without sloping and that will not cause water to pool around the foundation. Then you're going to need to know what type of foundation you are going to use.

A concrete slab foundation is permanent so once you pour it, you can't move it, even if you decide you want to move your shed later. A skid foundation can help protect your shed foundation from water and moisture that can cause too much humidity in your shed.

Humidity can wreak havoc on a storage shed.

Skid foundations are actually the most common type, although concrete slabs work very well. If you want to go with concrete but you're not confident in your ability to lay the concrete yourself, you can always hire someone to come in and do it for you. Then you go ahead and build your shed on top with confidence.

Also consider whether or not you have the tools needed and the time required to build your own shed foundation. Make sure you have the measurements right before building and that you have all the supplies needed before you start. You don't want to have to stop mid-way in a project to get something. These tips will help building your backyard shed foundation a little easier.
