The majority of my memories of my dad begin with him out in the garage working on some old appliance, taking it apart and putting it magically back together again. I always assumed that's what all engineers did as their hobby. After a long day a work putting things together, they would continue to do that work in some form or another. After growing up and following in my dad's footsteps, I also took up the same hobby hoping that my boy would find the interest to join me. We had a problem though; our home didn't come with the huge workspace that our old home up in Missouri had been equipped.
My son also has an affinity towards motorcycles and engines. Needless to say we needed a little more space than what we were used to with the old toasters and blenders I was used to fixing up with my father. I was telling an old co-worker of mine the dilemma and he suggested that I take a look into storage shed kits.
He was a part-time carpenter and had found adding a large shed in his backyard did wonders for his craft as well as kept his wife from getting too upset from the noise of the constant drilling and blade cutting. At the time, I hadn't even thought about the noise issue. So I placed the order online for our new family hobby space. I was surprised how quickly everything came into place. Constructing the shed was surprisingly easy with my son and me and heard only a few grunts coming from the son. It was a great bonding experience on its own and we both thoroughly enjoyed the day. It's been about 3 months now since we got it up and running and I'm surprised to see my son out there as often as he is. It's nice to see that he has something constructive to do that seems to run in our blood.
I have no complaints here from my backyard storage shed and am starting to believe it's possibly one of my best investments. The vinyl shed fits snuggly in the back corner of my lawn and is large enough for both my son and I to get in and work on any of our projects together. We recently had a downpour and everything inside remained perfectly in tact and I sleep soundly without any fear of theft since it has a great lock.
This past month has been great spending much more time with my family outside doing things together before we all get older and move on. It has also given me the opportunity to learn some new tricks of the trade as I stay out of the house and out of my wife's way. While I was not an expert on sheds or building one, I have found them very easy to put together and can highly recommend them to those who are looking for a simple an affordable solution to both storage and space issues.
